How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes!

Having trouble cleaning your brushes? Don't know which product to use? Scared your brush will ruin if you get water in it? Well, here are some tips and helpful tricks I learned from cleaning my own brushes, and some answers to your questions. :)

STEP 1
Okay so first of all, what do you clean your brushes with?
You can use anything you want/have.
You could buy a brush cleanser, which can go up to $30, or you can just use shampoo or soap.

I would also recommend to use a hair conditioner to make your brushes soft and fluffy, since the soap can be drying sometimes.

STEP 2
Before you start actually washing your dirty brushes, have a cloth or a paper towel lied down so you can dry your brushes on it.

Some people recommend to dry your brushes upside down to prevent the water from getting into the actual brush and ruin it, but I think drying them just laying on the towel works fine.

STEP 3
Wet your brush in water
STEP 4
Put soap on your hand and begin to clean the brush back and forth.
STEP 5
Rinse off the dirt and soap from the brush.
FYI: you may need to repeat step 4 a few times if your
brush is really dirty (like the foundation, concealer, and powder brushes.)

            STEP6 - optional
Put a little bit of hair conditioner on your hand and repeat step 4

Finally, rinse off the brush, making sure there is no makeup or soap in it, and lay it down on a wash cloth or a paper towel.

TIP: I usually lay my brushes down near the window to dry them faster with the warmth of the sun, but you can just keep them on your vanity or where ever.

Q & A

Q: How often should I clean my makeup brushes?
A: Cleaning your brushes is recommended once a week, you should clean your foundation, concealer, and powder brushes more often though.

Q: Does the price and quality of a brush make a difference in cleaning?
A: The price doesn't matter but the quality does. If your brush is shedding all the time and isn't very soft (is rough) there will be more chances of it ruining faster with or without cleaning.

Q: Does the brand of brush cleanser you use matter?
A: No, whatever works for you.

Q: Are high end brushes better than drugstore ones?
A: Not always. Most high end brushes are professional ones and that's why they are so soft and a great quality. But some drugstore brushes are good as well. For example, Ecotools brushes are a great quality they are very soft. Also, they are made with recycled products and their handle is made from Bamboo. Also, some ELF brushes are a good quality and are soft.

Q: Is it hard to clean makeup brushes?
A: not at all.

Q: How long does it take to clean makeup brushes?
A: depends on how many brushes you have and what steps you do and what you chose to skip.
